ITINERARY:
Day 1 – Sunday, September 21, 2025
We have an early morning departure and travel to Fayetteville, North Carolina, for our overnight stay. This is a wonderful opportunity to connect and bond with your fellow travelers.
Day 2 – Monday, September 22, 2025 (B,D)
Depart from Fayetteville and travel to Brunswick, GA, with a lunch stop along the way. In the afternoon, the group will enjoy a history and sightseeing tour of St. Simons Island, led by a knowledgeable guide who will share fascinating insights into the island’s 600-year history that has significantly impacted national and world events. Travelers will be captivated by the stunning landscapes, including the largest oak tree canopy on the East Coast and a remarkable ecosystem located east of the Mississippi.
This evening, dinner will be served at Iguana’s, a popular spot known for its delicious seafood, particularly the fried shrimp, all while enjoying picturesque views of the lighthouse. After the meal, the group will depart for their accommodations, checking in at the Courtyard Jekyll Island Oceanfront Resort for a 2-night stay.
Day 3 – Tuesday, September 23, 2025 (B,D)
After breakfast at the hotel, embark on a visit to the Mosaic Museum, which offers a comprehensive insight into the island’s rich cultural and natural history, featuring interactive exhibits and stunning visuals all within the existing footprint of the historic stables building.
Afterward, participants will enjoy a charming Tram Tour of the historic district of Jekyll Island. This tour delves into the island’s rich history, highlighting the opulent lives of tycoons, politicians, and socialites like J.P. Morgan and William Rockefeller, who frequented Jekyll Island at the turn of the century. Following the tram tour, guests will have the opportunity to participate in a self-guided tour at the Georgia Sea Turtle Center which offers the chance to learn about sea turtles and see rehabilitation in action with a host of interactive experiences. The remainder of the afternoon and evening are free to lounge at your beautiful resort and beach or explore Jekyll Island at your leisure, with lunch and dinner arrangements on your own.
Day 4 – Wednesday, September 24, 2025 (B,D)
On this exciting tour day, you will start with breakfast at the hotel before departing Jekyll Island for a scenic journey to Savannah, GA. Upon arrival, visitors will enjoy a Guided Trolley Tour of Savannah, exploring the city’s rich history and beautiful architecture. After the tour, there will be free time on River Street for shopping and lunch on their own. In the afternoon, guests will check in at the Springhill Suites Downtown Historic District, providing a comfortable 2-night stay in the heart of historic Savannah.
As the day winds down, boarding begins for a delightful dinner cruise aboard the Georgia Queen. Attendees will enjoy a two-hour cruise along the Savannah River, complete with a buffet-style dinner made from the freshest local ingredients. After dinner, guests can relax or get up and dance to live music spanning the hits from the 50s to today. The evening concludes with breathtaking views from the top deck, showcasing the picturesque sights and sounds of Savannah.
Day 5 – Thursday, September 25, 2025 (B,D)
Following breakfast, the day kicks off with a visit to the majestic Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist, known for its stunning architecture and rich history. Next, participants will explore the Mercer Williams House Museum, famously featured in the book “Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil,” providing insights into both the local culture and literary heritage. Then, enjoy a leisurely stroll through Forsyth Park, viewing its iconic Forsyth Fountain, a beautiful centerpiece with its sprawling green spaces and historic monuments, all set amidst a backdrop of towering live oak trees draped with Spanish moss.
To cap off the day, an included dinner at the iconic Pirate’s House Restaurant will offer a taste of the city’s culinary delights. The Pirates’ House was originally an inn for seafarers in 1734, that became a popular meeting place for pirates and sailors. The evening concludes with an enchanting show at the historic Savannah Theatre, promising an unforgettable end to a full day of exploration and enjoyment.
Day 6 – Friday, September 26, 2025 (B,L)
After a hot breakfast at the hotel, depart from Savannah to St. Helena Island, SC. Upon arriving at the Beaufort Downtown Marina, we begin a Gullah tour of St. Helena Island. Highlights include visits to the historic Penn Center, Chapel of Ease, and Praise House, where travelers will learn about the significant cultural heritage of the Gullah people and the history of plantations in the area. The tour will explore the Penn Center, established in 1862 to provide education to newly freed slaves and later serving as a retreat for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Participants will also visit one of the largest cotton-producing plantations in the region, where they will gain insight into the lives of the enslaved individuals who worked there.
Following the tour, a Gullah-style lunch will be served at the Gullah Geechee Culture and Visitor Center, featuring a traditional Lowcountry Boil, prepared by local Gullah chefs. Guests will enjoy an entertaining program by Gullah storyteller Anita Singleton Prather, known for her character Aunt Pearlie Sue, who brings to life the vibrant Gullah culture through folktales.
In the afternoon, you will have the opportunity to browse the shops at the McDonald Marketplace and the Lowcountry Store before departing for Dunn, NC, where our overnight accommodations await. This day provides a rich blend of history, culture, and culinary experiences reflective of the unique Gullah heritage.
Day 7 – Saturday, September 27, 2025 (B)
After a restful overnight stay near Lumberton, NC, we’ll conclude our journey and head back home, filled with wonderful memories from our trip.
